Some letters carry fine detail that is hard to read at the default size: small print, faint scans, or dense tables. You can enlarge any letter and move around it without leaving the coding view.
Every letter opens at Fit to screen, so you see the whole page when you start.
The zoom controls
The zoom controls sit in the bottom-left corner of the letter, stacked in a single column:
Zoom in (+): enlarges the letter one step at a time. The button greys out once you reach maximum zoom.
Zoom out (−): reduces the letter one step at a time. The button greys out once you reach minimum zoom.
Fit to screen: returns the letter to the size it opened at. It is greyed out while the letter is already at Fit to screen.
Hover over any of the three buttons to see what it does.
Zooming with your mouse
Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) and scroll to zoom. Scroll up to zoom in, scroll down to zoom out.
Zooming with the buttons (left) & zooming with the scroll (right)
The two methods behave differently. Holding Ctrl or Cmd and scrolling zooms towards your cursor, so point at the text you want before you scroll. The + and − buttons zoom towards the centre of the letter.
Moving around a zoomed letter
Click and drag a blank part of the letter, such as the margin or the space around the page, to move it. The cursor changes to a hand when you are over an area you can drag.
Dragging over the words themselves still selects them for coding, so zooming in does not change how you annotate. Your highlights stay in place and scale with the letter.
Click Fit to screen at any time to return to the full page.
