A Daily Routine That Keeps Letters Moving

What to check, and in what order, each day.

Written by Sarah

A simple daily routine stops letters waiting longer than they need to. This is the order we recommend:

  1. Clear Preparing. Confirm any patient matches that are waiting, so those letters can move on to coding. Use the Preparing actions quick view.

  2. Code urgent letters first. Filter the Letters page by urgency so urgent letters reach the right people quickly.

  3. Work through the rest. Use unassigned coding, or my letters (letters assigned to you).

  4. Clear rejections. Handle rejected letters each day, so they don't pile up.

  5. Check for letters outside BetterLetter (EMIS-only). Look in EMIS for letters from GPConnect, NHS 111, or out-of-hours services. See Letters Arriving in EMIS Outside MESH.

  6. Check the Daily Pulse. See what's come in, what's done, and what's still waiting. See How to use the daily pulse.

Tip: save your favourite filters as a browser bookmark, so each step is one click away.
